Congratulations to Ben for a Successful Ph. D Defense!

Join us in congratulating our first Ph. D. graduate from the M-Class Lab, Ben Farcy! Ben’s Ph. D. is a cross between fundamental geoscience and spaceflight engineering. To understand the rocky planets in the solar system, we need scientific instruments to measure their chemistry, which is what he worked to develop over his Ph. D. Ben constructed a miniature mass spectrometer as a prototype for measuring elemental geochemistry on planetary surfaces and developed the scientific application for these analyses to be applied to the Moon.

Welcome Soumya to the lab!

This week, our new post-doc officially joined the M-Class lab! Dr. Soumya Ray earned her Ph. D. from Arizona State University and will be working on both the CORALS and CRATER projects.

Congratulations to Kiran for a successful Master's Defense!

We would like to congratulate Kiran Almas on a successful defense of her Master’s Thesis. Her thesis, titled "Radiometric Dating of Rocky Planetary Bodies with Rb-Sr and LA-ICPMS" was presented Friday, July 9th. Kiran graduates with a Masters of Science in Geology and will be continuing at UMD’s department of Geology as a PhD pre-candidate under Dr. Walker. She is excited to learn new techniques in isotope geochemistry to answer outstanding questions regarding the evolution of the inner solar system. She hopes to someday teach in a culturally sensitive and empowering manner and advise the next generation of students in cosmochemistry and geochemistry.
